You’ve been dining out to music in Gibsons all last week and now the main event, the Gibsons Landing Jazz Festival, kicks off this Friday, June 15, at 8 p.m. with the Tom Keenlyside Quartet (Bill Coon, guitar, Kerry Galloway, bass, and Buff Allen, drums) at St. Bart’s Church. On Saturday, June 16 on Gower Point Road the main stage opens at noon with Mimosa (Rebecca Shoichet on vox, Karen Graves on sax and flute, Adam Thomas on vox and bass, John Rule on drums, Anna Lumiere on keys). The headliner this year is the Laila Biali Trio at 2:25 p.m. on the main stage. Look for the SD46 Jazz Band, and the Nick La Riviera Septet that closes the day at 4 p.m. Two bands play that evening: Rakish Angles at the former Gibsons United Church site and for danceable Motown soul, try the Adam Robert Thomas Band at the Gibsons Legion.

Sunday, June 17 opens with a Jazz Brunch at Leo’s with Steve Maddock and Steve Giltrow playing. Phone for reservations at 604-886-9414 for this popular event. Sunday in Winegarden Park is free admission, starting at 1:30 p.m. and you can hear the Creek Big Band, Take 5 and Deanna Knight and the Hot Club of Mars.

This year the Jazz Vespers event at St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church goes Mississippi Delta blues courtesy of the Blues Busters (Ron Campbell, Dennis Fox and Walter Martella). This traditional wind-up to the Gibsons Landing Jazz Fest is on Sunday, June 17 at 5:30 p.m. and is a contemplative service of music and spoken word. Admission is by donation (suggested $10 per person) at the door. Details are listed at www.coastjazz.com
