The exhibition that opens at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery this weekend is titled Figures on the Coast.
Ten artists are taking part: Ann-Marie Brown, Jana Curll, Bruce Edwards, Jack Gibson, Paula O'Brien (curator), Jan Poynter, Cindy Riach, Brian Romer, Noel Silver and Maurice Spira. Each artist explores the human form in their own way.The artists' reception is this Saturday, Feb. 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. All are invited. The gallery is at 431 Marine Dr. in Gibsons, and is open every day except Tuesday and Wednesday.
Gracie and puppets
Join local author Heather Conn and her puppets for a free reading of her children's book Gracie's Got a Secret on Saturday, Feb. 9. She'll be part of a fun, themed event at Gibsons Public Library at 2 p.m. Children's librarian Heather Evans-Cullen will have songs and activities on hand before and after the reading. Suitable for children ages two and up.
Art for Inner I

Coffeehouse
The Arts Building in Gibsons (464 South Fletcher Rd.) presents a musical coffeehouse with Mike Tandy, John Thompson and the haunting vocals of Sokole.Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and tickets at the door are $10.

Bob night
Celebrate with the 10th annual Bob Marley birthday bash at the Roberts Creek Legion, on Saturday, Feb. 9, starting at 9 p.m.It features live music with the Hoolicans and friends followed by DJs Nils and Gregory. Two classics?
On Sunday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. the Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt hosts London Theatre via satellite in the classic performance of Great Expectations.
Dickens' novel is presented in London's West End and will be available for cinema audiences around the globe. Broadcast live in high definition from the Vaudeville Theatre on its gala opening night, the production will include red carpet and exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpses for the cinema audience. La Bayadere, performed by the Bolshoi Ballet and delivered via Blu Ray, will be shown on Monday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m., the new Family Day holiday.

Kale fans
The Sunshine Coast Botanical Society presents a cooking demonstration with Sharon Hanna, author of The Book of Kale: The Easy-to-Grow Superfood, 80+ Recipes (Harbour Publishing). Film
You are invited to a truth telling opportunity to learn and understand the legacy of theIndian residential school system. There will be a film, Muffins for Granny, followed by a discussion at St. Hilda's Anglican Church, Sechelt, on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m.
Hunter photos
Two artworks of Half-moon Bay artist Elaine Hunter are now installed in 125 rooms in the Fairmont Royal York Hotel's newly renovated rooms and eventually will be seen in up to 300 rooms. The pieces are Rain Pine and Pine Drops. Hunter has also had Hidden Island shown in the Sylvia White Gallery Collectors' Choice exhibition this January in Ventura, California.
Forest art
A group of artists, musicians and poets are looking to hold an art show of works focused on the Community Forest sometime in late April, to be mounted in the Seaside Centre in Sechelt.
Work is presently being done to find a sponsor for the show that they anticipate would be a weekend in length.
Ed Hill writes: "While the battle was lost a few weeks ago for a particular block of beautiful, pristine old growth forest, our Sunshine Coast Community Forest has more forest that we need to be aware of and protect.As artists, you may have an opinion or a position in this regard.We hope to provide a venue for your creative artistic voice to be heard."
