Eleven Equal Artists give back

Visual arts bursaries

The Eleven Equal Artists are excited to introduce you to the recipients of the inaugural Eleven Equal Artists visual arts bursaries.

The bursaries support Sunshine Coast high school visual arts students. Money for the bursaries was raised through the Power of Paint exhibit last August. In 2013, Power of Paint attracted more than 2,000 people and had record art sales, including raising more than $3,000 to set up the bursary program.

The recipients included Kevin Graham from Elphinstone Secondary School, who plans to attend the Vancouver Film School in the fall, Sydney Downie from Chatelech Secondary School, who is planning to pursue art at either Emily Carr or Capilano College later in the year, and Shayleen LePage from the Outreach Program at the Sunshine Coast Alternative School. Pender Harbour Secondary received $800 for their art department. The money will go directly to purchasing art supplies and materials for the students, since they did not have a specific student who qualified for the bursary.

The Eleven Equal Artists hope recipients will be helped to continue their artwork as a result of receiving these bursaries.
