Dickens’ classic Christmas tale

Art Beat

This year’s Advent season opens with the tale of the true meaning of Christmas: Charles Dickens’ classic tale of avarice and redemption, A Christmas Carol.

Seven well-known Sunshine Coast actors will present the story of the ghosts of Christmases past, present and future, augmented by local musicians and choirs: Poco Choralations, A Cappella Strait and Kenneth Norman Johnson.

Dickens insisted that all proceeds from the performances help to alleviate poverty. This year, the proceeds go to the St. Bart’s food bank program and St. Hilda’s community kitchen. The performances are this Saturday, Nov. 29 at St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church in Gibsons and Sunday, Nov. 30 at St. Hilda’s in Sechelt, both beginning at 2 p.m. Refreshments will be served following the readings. At St. Bart’s, the famous mincemeat will also be on sale. Suggested donation is $10 or $25 for a family.
