The Sun Also Rises, a scene from Davis Bay by Lynda Manson.

Davis Bay artist Lynda Manson is on her way to Paris along with her painting, The Sun Also Rises, to take part in a huge international art exposition held in the Carrousel du Louvre. The gallery space is a private venue under the iconic inverted pyramid at the entrance to the Louvre art gallery. The show is on for three days, Oct. 21 to 23, and she hopes to meet other artists at the opening night vernissage.

The call to submit came out of the blue from a gallery and publisher of art books in Rome. Manson is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and her work has been featured in other art publications. She painted the image from a photo taken from her deck overlooking Davis Bay.

“It’s my interpretation of that particular sunset,” she says. Her free-flowing painting style has been used to great advantage in her literally more cosmic paintings: images of the constellations and nebulae. Manson’s work, From There to Here: A Journey Through the Cosmos, was recently shown at the Silk Purse Gallery in West Vancouver and in July at the Arts Centre in Sechelt.

She moved with her family to the Sunshine Coast in 2009 after spending many years working as a designer and fibre artist. She enthusiastically joined the world of fine art a few years ago. Her favourite media, oil pastels and acrylics, allow her to express herself in realism, and more recently, abstract themes. Portraiture is also one of her passions.

She has shown in group exhibitions in Las Vegas, New York and Miami and we have seen her work on the Coast during the last four Art Crawls and at the Doris Crowston Gallery in Sechelt. See www.lyndamanson.com for more about her art.
