Dance benefits kids on the Coast and in Kenya

Rotary Interact

The Chatelech Interact Club organized a Winter Wonderland Dance at Seaside Centre for all the Grade 6 and 7 students on the Sunshine Coast on Dec. 10.

It was a sell out and the kids had a great time. Thanks to the hard work of the Chatelech students and local sponsors Sound Attraction, Sunshine Coast Credit Union and McDonald’s Restaurant, the event raised more than $1,400.

The two charities that will benefit are local and international. KidSport Sunshine Coast helps get kids into organized sports who otherwise couldn’t afford to. The international money will send a Kenyan student to high school. High school is not free in Kenya and most kids can’t afford to attend high school.

One of the parent clubs of the Interactors, the Rotary Club of the Sunshine Coast-Sechelt, has been supporting Ndandini, a village in Kenya, since 2007 with projects ranging from providing clean water and growing gardens to supporting the local schools. This dance will fund a student to attend high school for four years.

The Interact Club is a service and leadership club sponsored by the Rotary Club of Sechelt and the Sunshine Coast Rotary. Watch for the next dance around Valentine’s Day.
