He is performing with a Blackwell guitar made by local luthier Martin Blackwell. He will perform selections from Turina, Piazzolla, Giuliani and Mertz, among others. Tickets are $20 at the door. End of the Road

The Sunshine Coast Film Society presents a special event, the film End of the Road in Gibsons, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. In the 1960s and ‘70s, an eclectic group of dreamers, artists, intellectuals and war resisters sought the greener pastures of Lund, B.C. In this testament to anyone whose idealism is challenged by the real, exhausting struggle to provide heat, shelter, food, water, raise children, and love unconventionally, the film follows their evolution from society dropouts to community leaders. It’s loaded with vintage film, photographs, original artwork and music. SCFS has invited special guests: producers/directors Tai Uhlmann and Theo Angell from Lund. It screens at Gibsons’ Heritage Playhouse. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Admission is $8 members; $12 single event.

DaVinci

Leonardo DaVinci: the Genius in Milan is the film offered at the Raven’s Cry Theatre, Sechelt, in their In the Gallery series. Leading DaVinci experts explore the multiple paths travelled by the mind of the genius on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 each ($10 for 18 years and under), available at the door.

JavaJazz, a women’s vocal ensemble, is now under the direction of Patrice Pollock. She follows former director Karen Edgar who left the Coast. Pollock brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as a member of the Definitely Diva trio, a percussionist and a member of the former After Hours quartet. She is writing new arrangements for the group and adding pop music and other genres to the jazz repertoire. JavaJazz Nouveau will be performing at the Pender Harbour Coffee House at the School of Music in Madeira Park on Nov. 10. Sacha Fassaert and Boyd Norman will be accompanying them.
