Coast String Fiddlers to host kitchen party

20th Anniversary
Coast String Fiddlers
Coast String Fiddlers will celebrate their 20th anniversary with a concert and kitchen party next Saturday, June 14, at the Roberts Creek Hall.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the Coast String Fiddlers (CSF) Association is hosting a concert and kitchen party next Saturday, June 14, at the Roberts Creek Hall.

Michelle Bruce, a Coast fiddler and teacher, founded the CSF as an ensemble group in 1993. She wanted to encourage learning by local children in a positive group environment. Since then, hundreds of children have participated, performing locally and internationally as the CSF, and as Bad to the Bow, to audiences ranging from local seniors’ homes to music festivals, parades and tours of B.C. communities. Fiddlers have also travelled to Iqaluit and to Aberdeen, Scotland to perform. Members participate in weekly rehearsals, as well as workshops, and play several dozen performances yearly.

This year, more than 60 members, ranging in age from seven to 18, will perform in next Saturday’s annual year-end concert, and then the concert will turn into a kitchen party-style performance, with groups and individuals performing a wide range of traditional, Celtic and modern fiddle music.

The concert is being held in Roberts Creek Community Hall, in celebration of the roots of the CSF in Roberts Creek, and is free to the public, in order to encourage people to come and see the remarkably talented musicians who live here on the Sunshine Coast. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. with the concert from 2 to 4 and the kitchen party until 8 p.m.
