Chatelech and Elphinstone perform in Banff

Rocky Mountain Music Festival
band

The combined Chatelech and Elphinstone Secondary Senior concert band and jazz band performed at the Rocky Mountain Music Festival in Banff last month.

The 47 band students, directed by Tom Kellough and accompanied by chaperones and music teachers Willy Razzo and Sarah Douglas, travelled by bus for 12 hours to the spectacular venue.

The bands had been preparing for this trip since the fall and were grateful to everyone who made it possible.

For each performance, the bands received a written adjudication, a recording and a clinic by professional musicians and music professors. They also were able to listen to other school bands and choirs as well as professional musicians perform.

The Rocky Mountain Music Festival is a non-competitive festival and a wonderful opportunity to grow and improve. The students also had the opportunity to ride the gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain, swim in the Banff Upper Hot Spring and walk around the town of Banff, making this band tour an amazing experience overall.
