Coast Recital Society (CRS) opens its 2013/14 concert season with a recital by the brilliant young Italian pianist Beatrice Rana, this Saturday, Sept. 28, at 2:30 p.m. at Raven's Cry Theatre.

This remarkable young artist was born to a family of musicians and made her debut as a soloist with orchestra at the age of nine, performing Bach's Concerto in F minor.

Born in Copertino, Italy, Rana was a pupil of Benedetto Lupo at the Nino Rota Conservatory and is currently studying at the Hochschule Hannover with Arie Vardi.

In 2011, she won first prize at the Montreal International Musical Competition, the youngest first-prize winner in the competition's history. She was awarded the silver medal and audience prize at the 2013 Van Cliburn Competition, with performances heralded by the Dallas Morning News as "sheer enchantment and almost fearsome in intensity."

Rana's career has already included major appearances at London's Wigmore Hall, the Festival de Radio France, the Festival de la Roque d'Anthéron and orchestral engagements with such conductors as Yannick Nézet-Seguin, Joshua Weiler-stein and Bernard Labadie.

She recorded Chopin's Preludes on the Atma label in 2012, together with Scriabin's 2nd Sonata, a recording that received international acclaim. Her CRS recital will include music by Robert Schumann and Frédéric Chopin.

In addition to Rana's recital, the CRS seven-concert season features performances by the New Orford Quartet, flutist Christie Reside with pianist Terrence Dawson, cellist Raphael Wallfisch with pianist Rena Sharon, the Bergmann Piano Duo, the Fine Arts Quartet and pianist Sara Davis Buechner.
