Coast Recital Society

Brilliant pianist Steven Osborne performs in recital for the Coast Recital Society (CRS) this Saturday afternoon, Feb. 21 at the Raven’s Cry Theatre in Sechelt.

The concert begins at 2:30 p.m. with a pre-concert chat hosted by CRS artistic director Frances Wainwright at 1:30.

Osborne’s standing as one of the great pianists of our time was publicly affirmed in 2013 with two major awards: The Royal Philharmonic Society Instrumentalist of the Year and his second Gramophone Award, this time in the Instrumental category, for his recording of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and solo works by Prokofiev. Prev-ious awards include a 2009 Gramophone Award for his recording of Britten’s works for piano and orchestra.

Concerto performances and solo recitals have taken Osborne to concert halls all over the world. His recitals of carefully crafted programmes are publicly and critically acclaimed without exception. During the 2013/14 season he held a residency at Wigmore Hall entitled “Spotlight on Steven Osborne” with a series of five concerts that included repertoire ranging from Beethoven, Ravel, Rachmaninov to Prokofiev and Tippett.

Osborne’s recording of Rachmaninov’s 24 Preludes was short-listed for a 2009 Gramophone Award and was chosen as Editor’s Choice in Gramophone, BBC Music Magazine, Inter-national Record Review, Musical Opinion and The Daily Telegraph. Other recordings include solo works by Debussy, Alkan, Liszt and more.

For his CRS recital, Osborne will perform music by Schubert and Beethoven.
