Classic guitarist Michael LeFevre will bring his smooth sounds to the Sunshine Coast for an intimate afternoon concert in Sechelt.

His show is slated for 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, at St. Hilda's Anglican Church, presented by the Sunshine Coast Guitar Society.

LeFevre began his formal classical guitar studies at the age of 15 at the Willoughby School of Fine Arts in Northeast Ohio and went on to study with George Bachmann at Kent State University and Steven Novacek at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1992.

In addition to his principal teachers, he has studied in master classes with some of the world's finest soloists, including Pepe Romero, David Russell, Paul O'Dette, Eduardo Fernandez and Eliot Fisk.

In 1993 he took first prize at both the Northwest Guitar Festival and Portland Guitar Festival competitions and began teaching at the Rosewood Guitar Studio in Seattle. In 1995 he took first prize at the International Guitar Congress competition in Corfu, Greece. In 2001, he was awarded the Northwest Young Artist Award-Tour Prize, which gave him the opportunity to perform numerous outreach concerts in smaller towns throughout the Northwest.

Some highlights of his performing experience include a solo appearance on the Seattle Symphony Subscription Series at Benaroya Hall in 2008, with the St. Helen's String Quartet at the Nordstrom Recital Hall in 2006, with Seattle Opera in 2002, a solo concert at the Old Citadel in Corfu, Greece in 1997, and a tour in Crete in 1995.

Tickets are $15, available in advance from Strait Music in Sechelt, Gaia's Fair Trade in Gibsons and MELOMania in Roberts Creek.
