New show

The upcoming exhibit at the Doris Crowston Gallery (Arts Centre, Sechelt) features the work of painters Jennifer Drysdale and Rochelle Nehring.

Both collections feature figurative work and were inspired by the artists’ parents. Drysdale’s exhibit, titled Into the Wilderness, is a tribute to her parents’ history of working in the commercial art world and is influenced by her love for commercial illustration from the 1940s, ‘50s and ‘60s.

Powell River artist Rochelle Nehring’s exhibit, The Good Old Boys, draws its inspiration from her father. The collection depicts glimpses into the lives of various men, each painting telling a little story and perhaps a little secret about the men. The show runs from Oct. 1 to 24 with the opening reception on Wednesday, Oct. 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. For more information, see scartscouncil.com or call 604-885-5412.

Beginner drawing

Local artist Pat Collier is again offering a drawing course for those who believe they can’t draw, but wish they could. She says all you need is the desire to draw and you can learn how. This eight-week series begins Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Arts Building in Gibsons from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Classical drawing techniques and more will be taught in a safe, supportive environment. Register at www.arts
building.org or call 604-886-0124. See www.patricia

Celtic fiddle

A night of Celtic music is coming to the Heritage Playhouse on Oct. 4 with 2013 Canadian Folk Music Award winner, Celtic fiddler Kiérah along with guitarist Adam Dobres (The Ruth Moody Band).

It was her attendance at the Sunshine Coast Celtic Music Camps from the age of five and on for nine more summers that taught the musician to love the fiddle and work hard in developing her style of playing. Show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are at Gaia’s Fair Trade, Laedeli and Sechelt Visitor Centre.
