The acclaimed Gryphon Trio returns to the Coast Recital Society (CRS) this Sunday, Jan. 18 at Raven’s Cry Theatre in Sechelt.

The concert begins at 2:30 p.m. with a pre-concert chat, hosted by CRS artistic director Frances Wainwright, at 1:30 p.m.

Internationally recognized for highly refined and dynamic performances, the Gryphon Trio has established itself as one of the world’s preeminent piano trios.

The Los Angeles Times has the highest praise for the Gryphon Trio: “This is a piano trio that plays with strength and unanimity … big, bold, almost orchestral performances.”

The members of the trio are Annalee Patipatanakoon, violin, Roman Borys, cello, and Jamie Parker, piano.

The 2013 winner of the $30,000 Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts administered by the Canada Coun-cil for the Arts, Canada’s Gryphon Trio continues to prove they are one of the world’s leading piano trios.

Performing from Canada to Russia, U.S. to Egypt, Belgium to Scandinavia, “Canada’s national treasure” is always in demand and continues to dazzle audiences with memorable performances. In Canada, amongst many performances, the trio embarked on a tour through the Northwest Terri-tories appearing in communities from Yellow-knife to Inuvik.

The Gryphon Trio has received two Juno Awards for Classical Album of the Year: 2004 and 2011.

Borys is entering his seventh year as artistic director of the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival (Chamber-fest), where the Gryphons have been a mainstay since the Festival’s inception in 1994. Patipatanakoon and Parker serve as the festival’s artistic advisors.

The Gryphon Trio will perform works by Haydn, Beethoven and R. Murray Schafer.
