Madeira Park Elementary School students Sarah Gooldrup, Elena Alps Mocellin, Jordan Jinks and Jake Roberts prepare for the upcoming production of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol.
Each class has been studying the ageless classic by reading various versions of the novel, studying the Industrial Revolution and examining many of the literary elements central to the Christmas Carol theme.
Every student in the school is involved with the production and the support from the community has been unbelievable.
Dan Hardwick, a former Madeira student, built a two-storey set, a London street scene that stretches the full length of the gym. Local community members who don’t even have kids in the school have been sewing costumes including waistcoats, Victorian dresses and outfits for the spirits. Slo Cat owner Mark Breezer has arranged all the music and will be playing live to accompany the singing.
It promises to be a high-energy show on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
