A second show at the Raven’s Cry Theatre with 54-40 has been added on March 18, 2018.

Because of overwhelming demand, a second show at the Raven’s Cry Theatre in Sechelt of the popular group 54-40 with their A History Unplugged concert has been added on March 18, 2018. 54-40 Unplugged: Songs and Stories is an intimate reimagining of 54-40’s greatest hits. Featuring original arrangements of violin, guitar, banjo, mandolin and more, this performance gives new context and spirit to classic songs. 

Deck the Halls

‘Tis the weekend for craft fairs of all descriptions. Deck the Halls, the annual Arts and Crafts Fair presented by the Sunshine Coast Arts Council, runs Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 18 and 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre (corner of Trail and Medusa in Sechelt). This juried Christmas fair features vendors from on and off the Coast. Find jewelry, pottery, knitted wares, drums, clothing, chocolates and body products. Check out the participating vendors on the website at sunshinecoastartscouncil.com/events. Shop to a backdrop of music by local young performers and take time for a snack by Caspier Catering. Artisans and artists are set up throughout the galleries, the art and music studios and hallway. Need a wreath? Check out Sue’s Plants and Gardens tent in front of the Centre where you can pick up a ready-made wreath or swag. Admission is $2 and children under 12 get in free with an adult. 

More fairs 

On Saturday, Nov. 18, catch the Bizarre Bazaar with the Grandmothers and GrandOthers at Roberts Creek Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and then travel on to the Christmas Craft Fair at the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre, 5604 Trail Ave, that same day. Their fair is also on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Artisan and yuletide 

The Artisan Craft Fair at Sunnycrest Mall in Gibsons is a popular one. It runs Saturday, Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 19, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

On Nov. 17 and 18, stop by the Yuletide Fair at Living Faith Lutheran Church in Davis Bay, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Look for home baking and canning as well as handicrafts, ornaments and gift items. Stay for hot lunch, tea and coffee. 

Mincemeat Saturday 

St. Bart’s Anglican Church in Gibsons is preparing for their biggest event of the year, the Festive Faire on Saturday, Nov. 18. Orders are already coming in for their renowned home-made mincemeat. The food-themed faire offers home-made jams, jellies and preserves, baked goods, kitchenware, tableware, gently used cookbooks and the gourmet gift basket prize draw. Lawrence Launch 

The Sechelt Library hosts an afternoon of stories and song with award-winning author and CBC broadcaster Grant Lawrence on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m.

Lawrence, author of the BC bestseller Adventures in Solitude (Harbour Publishing) brings his new rock ‘n’ roll memoir Dirty Windshields: The Best and the Worst of the Smugglers Tour Diaries (Douglas & McIntyre, $26.95) to the Sunshine Coast for an intimate and fun presentation of stories, songs, signings and more. Tom Holliston, member of NoMeansNo, will also give a special acoustic musical performance. 

Dirty Windshields bares all the salacious and hilarious details from Lawrence’s touring days as the lead singer of the Vancouver-based band The Smugglers. He hosts the award-winning CBC Radio 3 Podcast and can also be heard on CBC Radio One programs. This afternoon of story and song is courtesy of the Sechelt Library and Canada Council for the Arts.

Funktete 

Back by popular demand, Funktete is playing the Gibsons Legion on Saturday, Nov. 18. The last time they played this venue, the room was packed to the rafters, and the dance floor was hopping. Funktete is Karen Graves on sax/flute/vocals, Anna Lumiere on keys/ bass/vocals, Budge Schachte on guitar/bass/vocals, and John Rule on drums/vocals. They play a fun mix of funk, soul, reggae, Latin, some jump and blues. Music at 8 p.m. Admission is $5 members; $10 guests. 

Acrylic and Landscape 

The Arts Building on South Fletcher in Gibsons offers Acrylic Fun for $50 on Nov. 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. Do you want to start painting but don’t know where to start? Nanette will take you through each step. Acrylic Fun allows you to feel free, painting without the worry of messing up. Walk away with a completed 16×20 acrylic painting. No experience is necessary. On Nov. 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. take part in Introduction to Landscape: From Sketch to Finished Work for $100. Join Rick Cepella for a one-day intensive focus on landscape art for all those who enjoy all aspects of drawing and painting and are serious about upping their own practice. Young Artists 

The Sunshine Coast Arts Council is looking for artists aged 5 to 18 who love to be creative at home and who are working on their art independently of school to submit their work for showing at the gallery. Concert 

Three-time Juno nominee Kate Hammett Vaughan sings for you on Saturday, Nov. 25 at the Gibsons Public Market. Her jazz vocals are super and she will be accompanied by Steve Giltrow on guitar. Cocktails at 7 p.m. and music at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance at the Market, WOW Gallery in Sunnycrest Mall and Strait Music, Sechelt. 

Wildlife Fundraiser 

The Gibsons Wildlife Rehab Centre is holding their annual silent auction at the Sunnycrest Mall in Gibsons on Friday, Nov. 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. On display will be 200 plus items, including donated art from local artists. Support this good cause by shopping for great Christmas presents. All proceeds go to the care of injured and abandoned wildlife.
