This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Sunshine Coast Dance Society (SCDS) and as such, the non-profit society will celebrate with a full season of professional caliber dance events, workshops, a residency program and an annual scholarship.

To launch the year with a bang, the SCDS will present the much-loved and high energy Source Dance Company from Vancouver on Saturday, May 4.

The Show is an original dance presentation performed by dancers from all across Canada who audition each year to make up this dynamic company that focuses on jazz, hip-hop, contemporary and street jazz.

This season's production, "The Show"... Gotta Get it" is an exploratory look into the lives of professional dancers that reveals the true behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to audition, book, rehearse and perform a professional show.

Premiering at the Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt with shows at 2 and 7:30 p.m., excerpts from "The Show" will be performed while the full-length program will likely sell out theatres in Vancouver and Kelowna in June and July. The Raven's Cry performance will also feature several alumni Source dancers including Sammie Broomhall, now an internationally recognized professional dancer/choreographer and teacher. Broomhall was a grad of the Coast Academy's pre-professional dance program in Sechelt just a few years ago.

The inspiration behind the storyline is drawn from Marvin Hamlisch's feature film "A Chorus Line" and NBC's popular television series, "Smash."The story opens with the open call casting session, follows through background stories of dancers and their relationships with each other and the director, continues through the casting and rehearsal process, and finally finishes with the final product, "The Show."

"Each year I am blown away by the raw talent and drive each dancer in The Source Dance Company shows," said Source Dance Company artistic director and founder Joanne Pesusich, "This year is by far the most dedicated and well rounded company to date. The sheer talent in the room at each rehearsal is astounding. They will not disappoint. The Show is going to be a knockout."
