Farmers Appreciation Week

Pat and Diane Walker of Christmas Road Farm in Roberts Creek are regular vendors at the Sechelt Market.

Join the Sechelt Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market as they proudly celebrate B.C. farmers on Sept. 13, part of the fifth annual Farmers Appreciation Week. You are invited to celebrate by coming down to the market and personally thanking the farmers.

The market will have a Facebook contest happening: take a selfie photograph with your favourite farmer, and post it on the Sechelt Market Facebook page for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate.  The market will also have a kids’ contest: find the biggest zucchini at the market for a chance to win a $10 gift certificate. Entry forms will be located at the farmers’ booths and the draw will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13.

“B.C. farmers are our best source for fresh, healthy, local food,” said Jon Bell, B.C. Association of Farmers’ Market president and long-time vendor at the Sechelt Market. “Farmers Appreciation Week gives the B.C. Association of Farmers’ Markets and consumers an opportunity to express our gratitude and recognize the thousands of B.C. farmers contributing to our health, our communities and our economy.”

“Farmers Appreciation Week is all about choosing food that is locally grown, supporting our farmers and, in doing so, creating a strong local economy, ” said Wendy Byhre, site manager at the Sechelt Farmers’ & Artisans’ Market.

British Columbians can demonstrate support for B.C. farmers and ranchers during the week by purchasing fruits, vegetables, wine, cheese, beer and meat at their local farmers’ market, farm stand or retail outlets.
