Supporting healthy childhood development

Exploration and Discovery 2014
child care

Regardless if you are a parent, grandparent or child care professional, you will find much of interest at this year’s Exploration and Discovery, the early learning and child care conference offered through Sunshine Coast Child Care Resource and Referral program (CCRR).

Keynote speaker, early childhood educator and Liberation Learning Project founder Tom Kertes, will present How Children’s Empowerment Changes Everything to examine the question: How does good quality care expand a child’s full potential?

Throughout the day there are additional workshops offered to spark your enthusiasm and creativity. For An Integrated Approach to Indoor and Outdoor Play, discover how children can reap the benefits of natural play.

Boundaries, Not Rules explores positive ways to set boundaries and empower children.   Bring a digital camera to Environmental Awareness Through Art to capture the images made from natural materials. And learn about stages of language development with Strategies to Support Preschool Language Development.

Then, enjoy a delicious lunch and opportunities to connect with colleagues and friends or visit some of the display tables before heading back to your afternoon workshop.

How Imagination Can Inform Inclusion will take you through lots of theoretical and practical aspects of changing the sometimes challenging task of inclusion into a fun, imaginative and relaxed reality.

Do you ever want to build structures, and can they defy gravity? Join Science World staff for Learning about Structures and Ramps, and explore the forces that help objects move. Learn about providing children with an environment rich in natural materials in Designing Reggio Inspired Environments on a Shoe String Budget.

The importance of the relationship between caregiver and the child to healthy child development will be explored in Strengthening Caregiver-Child Attachment Relationships to Give Children the Best Start in Life”.

Exploration and Discovery will be held at Chatelech Secondary School in Sechelt on Saturday, Oct. 18. For more information about the conference or registration, please contact the Sechelt CCRR office at 604-885-5657.
