Beginning the day at the Ross Street Sikh Temple, students met priest Horrinder Sing who shared stories about the struggles Sikhs faced coming to Vancouver.

Students learned about the principals of Sikhism and stories of the faith.

Following a historic walk around Chinatown, students explored all sorts of mysterious shops and stores and learned about Chinese herbs, dried goods and medicinal remedies. Locals shared stories about the history of Chinese settlement in Vancouver including some of the racism and discrimination the Chinese have endured over time.

“Many of our students were totally amazed such interesting and dynamic communities are just a ferry ride away,” said teacher Sammi Dixon.
