The Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program – a partnership between the BC Association of Farmers’ Markets and the B.C. government – operates in 54 communities, where local farmers’ markets partner with local organizations that work with the priority populations that receive the coupons.

The Sechelt Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market works with Sunshine Coast Community Services (Bellies and Babies, Infant Development and Transition House), Vancouver Coastal Health, Sechelt First Nation, Tibetan Resettlement Project and Syrian refugee families, and Sechelt Seniors Centre.  Last year $12,000 worth of coupons were given out in Sechelt.

This year the market is partnering with Heather’s Your Independent Grocer to raise additional funds for the program, with all proceeds from the raffle ticket sales and barbecue put on by Heather’s Independent to go directly into the 2017 coupon program.

BC Cherry Fest will be from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 16 at the store’s entrance. Two more raffles will be held next month – one for Peach Fest at Heather’s on Sunday, Aug. 13 and one for Vendor Appreciation Week in the market on Aug. 5.

The market’s sponsors are providing exciting prizes for the raffles. Tickets are $2 on the day of the event only.

The market is open every Saturday until the end of September from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Cowrie Street in Sechelt.
