Coasting Along Theatre Society director Kathleen Holmes, left, receives a cheque for $8,680 from Tim Hortons owner Klauss Fuerniss and manager Gill Van Poppelen after a highly successful Smile Cookie fundraiser in support of The Nutcracker Ballet.

Coasting Along Theatre Society's (CATS) Nutcracker ballet returns this holiday season with a production even more sumptuous, explosive and alive with energy, thanks to the generous support of Tim Hortons and the Sunshine Coast community during the Smile Cookie fundraising campaign.

Smile cookies were baked and baked as a spectrum of (CATS) members and volunteers ranging from young performers to grandparents and Tim Hortons staff worked together to spread smiles along the Coast with 8,680 cookies being delivered from Port Mellon to Pender Harbour.

“It is a production of vast scope,” said director Kathleen Holmes. “We wish to extend a huge thank you to all those who generously supported this initiative.”

Scotiabank functioned as coordination hub and major sales location. Canadian Tire, Trail Bay Mall, IGA Gibsons and Persephone Brewing Co. were instrumental to the success, with dancers selling cookies at their respective businesses and, of course, all those who bought Smile Cookies.

“We just can’t express enough thanks to everyone at Tim Hortons for the incredible amount of extra work they did,” added Holmes. “Even when faced with having orders for 99 dozen cookies added to an already busy night shift, staff were always cheerful and helpful.”

The Gibsons Tim Hortons finished first in B.C. for this year’s Smile Cookie fundraiser.

“It’s a lot of hard work but it’s great fun and always for a good cause,” said manager Gill Van Poppelen.
