Movie Night now apart of FunFest

After postponing twice already due to Mother Nature, the volunteers who have put hundreds of hours into planning this event for the third straight year look forward to the Movie in the Park event on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Thanks to the 2014 Elphinstone grad class and teacher-sponsor Sarah Mani and principal John Brisebois, this event will be part of the Elphi Fall FunFest.

The Elphinstone grad class, who holds this annual Fall FunFest, which was originally started to honour the memories of Trina Borley and Hanna Anderson, traditionally has given partial proceeds to the KidSport Chapter. Together, these groups are excited to join forces to hold this year's event.

On Sept. 11, a baseball game with the grad 2014 class and Elphinstone teachers will take place at Brothers Park at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Following the game, spectators, players and the Sunshine Coast community are invited to the school's lower field and gym at 5 p.m. to take part in fun activities including face-painting, a kissing booth, fish pond, bouncy castles, sumo wrestling and much more! The games are by donation with the barbecue, 50/50 draws and raffle ticket sales taking place until 7. At that time, the Movie in the Park and FunFest raffle winners will be drawn and everyone is encouraged to stay to watch the movie, The Croods, on a three-storey inflatable screen on the upper field.

Admission to the event is free and Food Bank donations will be accepted at the KidSport tent.

The Movie in the Park raffle tickets are on sale now at any Sunshine Coast Credit Union or IGA location. All prizes have been donated and include a $500 SCCU savings account, $500 IGA gift card, two nights hotel in Whistler, merchant prize packs, a kids' quilt by S.C. Quilters, Ryan Dempster autographed jersey, B.C. Lions autographed football, and more.

"We are so very grateful that Elphinstone Secondary has stepped up to the plate to ensure that this great community event can still take place," said KidSport co-chair DianeWagner. "The grad class will continue to hold their games and activities for the kids and in addition, the KidSport sponsors will add the huge movie event to the evening, as well as thousands of dollars in raffle prizes."
