Mount Tzoonie mountaineering

SUNSHINE COAST NATURAL HISTORY SOCIETY

Ivy Miller, Bob Sitter and Peter Feichtner will describe a three-day mountaineering experience at the next meeting of the Sunshine Coast Natural History Society.

In September 2013, the trio climbed the three peaks of Mount Tzoonie, Mount Serov and Mount Vrubel. This area is in the vicinity of the of the Tzoonie River head-waters which flow into Narrows Inlet.

This is a spectacularly beautiful, grand and rugged mountain landscape, rarely seen by visitors, as it is difficult to get there. The team flew out by helicopter and established a base camp at 4,800 feet elevation. After settling in, the team began their different assents. The adventure will be described in a video prepared by Miller and photographs taken by Sitter and Feichtner.

Miller lives in Langdale and enjoys creating short videos featuring life-inspiring adventures. Sitter is retired after working in the forest products industry. He now spends his time between Halfmoon Bay and West Vancouver pursuing his passions of hiking, climbing, birding, travelling, writing and family activities.

Feichtner started hiking and climbing from his back yard in the Bavarian Alps. After training as a mason in Europe, his working life involved restoring pulp-mill kilns and digestors in Canada and abroad.

The meeting takes place on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt. Refreshments will be served and guests are always welcome.
