Learn to propagate native plants

Botanical Garden
harry hill
Harry Hill will offer a workshop on propagating plants on Oct. 12 at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden.

Making new plants from existing ones is a kick, and an enviable skill.

From California lilac to evergreen huckleberry, there are many desirable native plants to try.

Join Harry Hill at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden Oct. 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. for a hands-on demonstration and practice, resulting in plants for you to take home and skills to make more.

Harry Hill is coordinator of the Native Plant Garden. The first phase, the Rainforest Grove, was completed in 2013; now he is working on the rain shadow and pond/wetland native plants.

Hill has grown many plants from seeds or cuttings for these gardens and has a long-standing passion for propagating native plants of the entire Pacific Northwest region.

The methods you will learn are also applicable to most garden plants. Hill will cover how to care for the plants until they are ready to go into the ground.

Nurturing and growing native plants is a way to keep our habitats healthy while supporting biodiversity. Plants and animals all need each other to survive. Every private landscape can help support plants and animals under stress due to loss of habitat and changing conditions. You can make a real difference!

This workshop will be in the classroom at the south entrance to the Garden (marked volunteer parking). Most materials will be supplied, but bring a sharp knife. Admission is by donation, with $10 suggested. Space is limited, so you are urged to register early. Call 604-740-3969 or email [email protected]
