Kettle Campaign seeks volunteers

Salvation Army

It’s time to ring those bells!

The Salvation Army’s recognizable red kettles are out and about in Gibsons, Wilson Creek and Sechelt. The Salvation Army invites the community to celebrate the Sunshine Coast Christmas Kettle Campaign by volunteering for two hours at one of six locations.

This year’s campaign runs until Dec. 24 with shifts from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Marketplace IGA in Gibsons, Sunnycrest Mall, London Drugs, Canadian Tire, Extra Foods and Trail Bay Mall in Sechelt.

The traditional Christmas Kettle effort is aimed at raising dollars and awareness about the continued need for social service programs and resources to support vulnerable individuals throughout B.C. and Canada during the holiday season and year-round. All funds raised on the Sunshine Coast remain here to help people in our local communities.

“People recognize The Salvation Army as a part of the Christmas season because of our iconic Christmas Kettles placed across the country throughout November and December, but we want that recognition to go deeper,” said Commissioner Susan McMillan, territorial commander for the Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda. “This year we want to connect with community members and let them know that their donation will provide a warm meal to a mother and her child or provide a plentiful box of food to help stretch the budget during Canada’s cold winter months.”

This is the 124th year that the organization has asked the public to help millions of Canadians living in poverty. With a $57,000 local goal, the campaign will enable the Salvation Army to work with individuals and families in providing basic necessities such as food, clothing and other provisions. Contributions will also help the Salvation Army provide life-changing programs to help vulnerable individuals find a way out of poverty, permanently.
