Keeping safe from identify theft

Anti-Fraud Month

March is National Anti-Fraud month. On Wednesday, March 4 the Canadian Identity Theft Support Centre will provide a free workshop on how people can keep themselves safe from identity theft at the Gibsons and District Public Library from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Identity theft is the fastest growing and most serious non-violent crime in North America. Identity theft and fraud include a range of crimes such as credit card information theft, financial and personal document theft and data breeches. Thieves strike indiscriminately, leaving individuals, businesses, governments and organizations of all sizes vulnerable to their attacks.

The impact on victims can be devastating, impacting their personal finances, credit ratings, criminal records and worse. Participants in the workshop will gain the information and skills needed to avoid becoming a victim of this prevalent crime. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Sunshine Coast Credit Union, this important workshop is free and open to everyone. Limited seats are available, so registration is required. Sign up by calling Heather Evans-Cullen, community outreach coordinator, at 604-886-2130.
