Journey South: Patagonia & Antarctica

Sunshine Coast Natural History Society

Ever wondered about Patagonia’s rugged coastline and Antarctica’s timeless mystique?  At the March 6 meeting of the Sunshine Coast Natural History Society, Alexis Harrington will present an illustrated voyage to the end of the world focusing on Patagonia’s small villages and changing landscape before moving to Antarctica’s frozen continent’s vast expanses, research stations, seals, whales and of course penguins.

She has just returned from a trip from Santiago, Chile to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and she will outline her experiences with the extreme landscapes and animal life through her love of photography. Prepare for penguin pictures as these little charmers vied for the camera.

Harrington has loved the Sunshine Coast all her life. Thus it was an obvious choice for her to move to Sechelt from Vancouver in 2006. When she’s not enjoying her work with The Coast Group Chartered Accountants in Sechelt, she loves to travel. Her travels have found her snorkeling in French Polynesia’s azure waters, crammed into Moscow’s subway, dabbling her toes in the Beaufort Sea, lost in Venice’s alleys, and watching the stars blaze over the Gobi Desert. At home, she loves to be on the water, or being involved with birding, gardening and photography.

The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt.
