Gibsons library hosts ABCs of LGBT

Community Outreach
LGBTQ

The Gibsons & District Public Library has created an opportunity for all Sunshine Coast residents to ask questions about the LGBTQ2 community that they aren’t sure how to ask: What do all the letters of the ever-expanding acronym mean? Why is there often nudity at Pride parades? How can I be expected to use “they” as a singular pronoun when it’s grammatically wrong? What do I do now that my son has said he’s a girl? And so on.

Parents, friends, doctors, social workers, teachers, neighbours – anyone with a question about LGBTQ2 topics – is invited to attend this friendly Q&A with a dynamic panel of community experts on Saturday, March 10, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Gibsons library.

Panelists include Rev. Clarence Li, Laurie Lesk (director of Sunday in the Park with Pride Society), Denise Woodley (aka dj little d), Kerry Verhulst (supportive parent of a transgender person), and others. Library outreach coordinator Andrea Routley will be moderating the event.

Advance questions are welcome. There are several ways to do this:

• Write your question down and put it in the ABCs of LGBT Q&A box at the library.

• Email your questions to the outreach coordinator at aroutley@gibsons.bclibrary.ca.

• Call the outreach coordinator at 604-886-2130.

Questions can be asked anonymously. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions at the event.

This event is produced in collaboration with Sunday in the Park with Pride Society, a registered non-profit dedicated to creating community for LGBTQ2 youth on the Sunshine Coast. The society also publishes Pride Guide, and annual magazine showcasing LGBTQ2 people, arts and culture on the Sunshine Coast.
