The TS Royalist is based out of the U.K. Eligible Sea Cadets can expect three weeks on board the TS John Jerwood and the TS Royalist on an exciting journey with other cadets from across Canada.

Gibsons Sea Cadets is growing and getting ready to stand up as an individual corps. Up to now, the Gibsons group has been an auxiliary corps (Conway Division) belonging to 105 RCSC Lonsdale in North Vancouver. With their rapid growth, their commanding officer has high hopes for their standing up within the next year.

“It’s all been about the kids sharing their enthusiasm for the program,” said Sub-Lieut. David Young, the divisional officer for the corps. “I am extremely impressed and very proud of their hard work and dedication.”

Any youth aged 12 to 18 may apply to the program. The Cadets to date have enjoyed sailing, scuba diving, air rifle marksmanship, participating in parades and ceremonies, and especially summer camp.

“Anyone joining within the next month or so will still be able to register for summer camp,” Young said.

“The program is truly a unique one and may be the last true, free program. There is no charge to join, uniforms are included, and cadets are paid a stipend when they attend the free summer camps.”

There are also foreign exchanges, Orca and Tall Ship deployment, and many other travel opportunities offered to higher level cadets. All of this is free of charge.

Leadership, seamanship, sportsmanship, friendship. This is what Sea Cadets is all about.

If you know anyone who is 12 or older who might be interested in joining Sea Cadets, they can find more information at the Gibsons Sea Cadets Facebook page or they can visit the Sea Cadets as they parade on Wednesday nights at the Gibsons Elementary School between 6 and 8:30 p.m.
