For the love of a Crossfire

The Northwest Crossfire Club will be visiting the Sunshine Coast Sept. 7 to 9.

The Northwest Crossfire Club could not resist the attraction of the Sunshine Coast and will be visiting Sept. 7 to 9.

Crossfire owners from as far away as Idaho and California will be getting together with B.C. and local owners for fun and exploration of the beautiful Sunshine Coast.

The Crossfire is a relatively rare car manufactured from 2004 to 2007 by Daimler Chrysler. Only 73,000 were produced and numbers globally existing today are scattered and sparse (although the Coast has a good share). It was a brief affair between Mercedes and Chrysler, where it seems there was a contest between each of them to put as many features into this small, unusual, eye-catching, luxury creation.

For those of us lucky enough to own one, it is another affair that will last a long time. We will be meeting at the Gibsons Public Market on Sept. 7 at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at Molly’s Reach at 2:30 p.m. and then a drive to Tuwanek. On Friday, Sept. 8, there will be a delightful drive to Egmont to visit the Egmont Heritage Centre and the Skookumchuck Rapids, and on Saturday, a visit to the Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market in Sechelt, then another fun drive to Madeira Park.

A magnificent book was published a few years ago, Women of Pender Harbour, Their Voices, Their History, which is great reading. On page 200 there is a photo of Madeira Park Shopping Centre in 2010 and a shiny, sweet car, a Crossfire, in the parking lot in the middle of the photo.

I was very inspired by the book and the photo. I could never be one of those amazing women, but I thought I just might be able to find a Crossfire.

Five years into the affair, the love is greater than ever. She has a wing; she flies and brings me pure joy. I do believe the Crossfire in the picture is home forever with Jean (Flair on the Coast, most amazing woman), and Gordon Pate of Pender Harbour.

Welcome, Northwest Crossfire Club! Enjoy our paradise!
