Fall Faire time in the Creek

One Straw Society

It’s time again for some autumn fun with One Straw’s seventh annual Fall Faire. Join in this Sunday, Oct. 5, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Roberts Creek Community Hall. The Fall Faire will feature a farmers’ market, feast to fields demonstration, apple press, skills share, family-friendly activities, treats and more!

Take part in some great contests with prizes from local businesses including: yummiest locally made pie, tastiest homemade preserve, largest pumpkin or squash (from your garden) and best-dressed vegetable.

Live and Learn, a featured program from One Straw that strives to retain the local wisdom of food cultivation and homesteading, will host a free workshop at 1 p.m. at the Masonic Hall next to the Creek Hall. The class Harvesting Our Wisdom will be facilitated by a local seed saver and educator Denise Legassé and is not to be missed.

From 3 to 5 p.m. there will be a stone soup potluck. Stone soup is a long-standing community tradition that has been practised among many cultures as a way to bring people together. Bring an ingredient to share and relax with live entertainment while the soup is cooked for you. Enjoy music from Daniel Kingsbury and others.

There are great vendors, workshops and activities lined up, and there is still space if you are interested in contributing to the fun by hosting a table, providing music at the potluck or volunteering in any way. Please contact foodnetwork@onestraw.ca

Along with One Straw, you can look forward to seeing these other coastal organizations that are helping with event activities and organization: Sunshine Coast in Transition, Sunshine Coast Seed Saving Collective and the Food Policy Council.
