Celebrating outdoor resources

If you are looking for a day of outdoor activities, music and fun for the whole family, mark next Wednesday, July 3, on your calendar - the day of the inaugural Sechelt Outdoor Festival in Hackett Park.

The event, presented by the Sunshine Coast Outdoor Event Society, takes place on day four of the epic BC Bike Race (BCBR) when riders all over the world compete in a seven-day stage race with two full days on the Coast. There will be close to 1,000 bikers and their support crews in Sechelt next Wednesday.

"This event is a way of celebrating and showcasing all of the outdoor resources we have here on the Sunshine Coast," said festival coordinator Lydia Watson. "It will give BCBR racers and staff a chance to get a taste of what we offer while having our locals come out and support the racers -all while being active and having fun outdoors. We wanted to capture the buzz that happens every year on day four and get more locals out to celebrate our amazing outdoor activities."

There will be live music, an outdoor expo featuring many outdoor organizations and businesses on the Coast with interactive displays, food, live bands, a kids' bike race and skills session, a free mass yoga session, beer garden and much more.

The District of Sechelt's grant in aid program, the Sunshine Coast Community Forest and Salish Soils have also donated funds and support for the festival.
