Caring work in Kenya continues

In early September, Mercy and Caring Children’s Homes had a potluck at the Seaside Centre in Sechelt. Many supporters of the work in Kitale, Kenya came out to hear about the latest news from Mercy Home.

The founders, Nancy (Robson) Cahill and her husband Edwin, started the work in 2001 when they saw the slums of Kipsonga. They had a heart for the poor and saw a way to help through education and making a comfortable home for the orphans and needy children of the slums.

In January 2017 the Cahills and Trevor and Candice Engh (nee Veale), a local woman, come along on a trip to Kitale. Engh had gone to Kitale twice before to help out. Together the couple made a video of the children and the work.

Since 2001 Mercy Home has continued to grow and in 2007 the first structures were built that now house dormitories and a high school for 100 needy children. Many of the first children, who are now adults, have gotten jobs and are lab technicians, doctors, police officers, cooks and social workers. Many have left Mercy Home to marry and have families of their own.

Nancy and Edwin Cahill are very thankful for the many supporters of this vital work.

On Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sunnycrest Mall, near SuperValu, there will be a craft and bake sale to help continue this work in Kenya.
