Arbourist Cheryl Topping will hold a pruning workshop on Jan. 27 and 28 at the Botanical Garden.

Since February is an excellent month to prune your trees and shrubs, let arbourist Cheryl Topping improve your skills to make the right cuts, at the best spots, to achieve the results you want, with no nasty surprises.

The Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden offers two demonstrations of best pruning practices Jan. 27 or 28.

Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Botanical Garden, 1 p.m., she will show how to support health and beauty in trees and shrubs, with plenty of chance for questions. This session is by donation at the door, $15 suggested.

On Sunday, Jan. 28, 1 p.m., she will lead a hands-on demonstration with emphasis on fruit trees, at a private garden in Roberts Creek. You must pre-register to receive the address, and space is very limited. The cost of this session is $15 for Botanical Garden members, $20 for non-members. Register or enquire by phone (604-740-3969) or email [email protected]. Bring your secateurs or hand-pruners if you wish.

Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden is at 5941 Mason Road in West Sechelt, with winter hours 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday through Monday. Membership is very inexpensive, and includes unlimited number of visits each year, plus early notice of events such as these ones, plus lectures, plant sales and much more.
