Compassionate Friends meets every third Tuesday of the month for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one.

The death of someone in our lives can be one of the most difficult situations we face. The Sunshine Coast Hospice Society works to make sure we don’t have to face it alone. Trained volunteers are available to support those who are grieving through an eight-session group support program.

These support groups are offered twice a year, one focusing on partner loss and one on general loss which can include partners, parents, children, relatives, friends and pets.

In addition, Com-passionate Friends has recently partnered with Hospice on the Coast to offer once a month support for parents who have experienced the death of a child. All groups meet at Kirkland Centre in Davis Bay, which is home to the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society.

“This past spring I had the opportunity to participate in the bereavement support group at the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society. From the first few minutes of the first meeting I knew I was in the right place,” said past participant Deb Gleason. “The loving support and presence of the facilitators made it easy to relax and do some deep healing work. Being around the other participants who knew what I was going through was very comforting. I did not know much about grief and mourning going into this group, but I came out eight weeks later with a deep understanding of the process and a gentle and loving approach to the work I needed to do to heal. I would recommend this group to anyone who has experienced a loss in their lives.”

Compassionate Friends meets every third Tuesday of the month, and the next general loss bereavement group starts Oct. 29. There is still space to register and there is no cost to participate, but donations are always graciously accepted.
