BC Thanksgiving food drive gives hope this season

Food Banks

On Saturday, Oct. 4, the BC Thanksgiving Food Drive (BCTFD) collected in excess of 195,000 kg (430,000 pounds) of food throughout the province. We visited approximately 250,000 addresses in 49 cities and towns.

The BCTFD event in Sechelt included more than 41 volunteers. They were able to collect more than 12,000 pounds (5,454 kg) of non-perishable food for the Sunshine Coast Food Bank in Sechelt, St. Bartholomew's Food Bank, The Salvation Army Food Bank and the Pender Harbour Food Bank.

The local BCTFD event in Sechelt was assisted by The Salvation Army, the Newcomers Club, St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, Pentecostal Church of Pender Harbour, Sechelt Food Bank, Rona Madeira Park and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Gibsons Fasteners provided a van for pick-up purposes.

"Special thanks go to all the volunteers including the ones at each food bank. This would not be possible without their service," said Burns Matkin, Sechelt BCTFD representative.
