Armchair Travel visits Lesotho

Plant Safari

Go back a century in time, joining Bill and Rosemary Terry on a photographic plant-hunting safari in Lesotho, Africa, known as The Sky Kingdom, at Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden, Thursday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.

Armchair Travel is an annual adventure to a garden or habitat somewhere far away, and this year’s presentation by the Terrys lets you avoid the expense and arduous 30-hour travel time.

Entirely surrounded by South Africa, Lesotho is a constitutional monarchy, slightly smaller than Vancouver Island, nestled in the high plateau of the Drakensburg mountains. No part of the country is below 5,000 feet.

You’ll travel by jeep on incredibly bad roads, enjoy spectacular scenery, get a sense of the way of rural village life, and discover alpine plants in their natural home, some of which can be grown in our Sunshine Coast gardens.

Admission to this event is by donation at the door.

Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden is at 5941 Mason Road, West Sechelt, and is open four days a week during winter, Friday through Monday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., by donation. Members enjoy unlimited visits plus many extra perks. For information, see www.coastbotanicalgarden.org.
