An evening with Irem Bekter

ANCA

The Sunshine Coast chapter of ANCA opened 2015 in style and grace last Thursday night, Jan. 29 with an evening with Irem Bekter at the More Café and Bakery at Sunnycrest Mall in Gibsons.

Bekter has an extensive career as a film, television and stage actress and teaches a master class at the National Theatre School in Canada.

Bekter shared an interactive moment of breath, sound, body and voice with guests and it was an inspiring moment for all to hear the pure voice of such a professional artist with no sound system, no microphone — just the ability to control sound and levels with the artistry of personality in song.

Bekter is currently working with ANCA’s performing arts division, providing master class workshops for local aspiring artists, entrepreneurs, professionals, the general public and musicians.

Also on hand were Coast dancers Ciara Cassidy and Ella Garrick who recently performed at the fifth annual ANCA World Autism Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. Their travel was made possible by the generous support of Sunshine Coast businesses and community members.

Both Ciara and Ella are in the upcoming film Connected, which will premier on April 2, World Autism Awareness Day, at the Vancouver International Film Centre in Vancouver.
