Gibsons Public Library patrons donated more than 260 pounds of food to St. Bart's Food Bank through the Food for Fines Amnesty program.

The library forgave $300 worth of fines from Aug. 17 to 24 on one condition; patrons pay fines by donating food for St. Bart's Food Bank.

Chief librarian Tracey Therrien thanks the patrons for their thoughtful contributions and plans to make this an annual event in conjunction with Patron Appreciation Day every August.

Janet Genders, St. Bart's Food Bank coordinator, is grateful to the library and all local businesses and agencies who generously donate food and money, which in turn provides approximately 120 local residents per month, with much needed groceries. Food Bank Donations can be directed to [email protected].
