The Sounds of Howe Sound

West Howe Sound

The Future of Howe Sound Society is sponsoring a rally in support of tourism and recreational use in the Sound. If you have a boat or kayak you may wish to join Up the Noise for Howe Sound this Sunday, July 27 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Boats will meet at the North end of Gambier Island at Ekins Point and proceed across to McNabb Creek on the Sunshine Coast. There will be speeches from VIPs and the Brothers musical group will perform, see http://futureofhowesound.org/ for more details.

The last Transition cafe of the summer will be held at Wheatberries in Gibsons on July 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. This will be an informal gathering where participants have an opportunity to ask questions about the Transition movement and the Sunshine Coast in Transition working group. Alternatively, if you want more email ttsunshinecoast@gmail.com.

The Gambier Island Family Fair is set for Aug. 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

There will be games, races and face painting for the kids, the infamous pie contest, cupcake walk, and silent and live auctions. Plus there’s a flea market and craft fair. Any crafters who would like to participate should call Louise at 604-886-4811 to book a table for $10.

If you’re coming over from Langdale, it’s recommended to take the 11:50 a.m. Stormaway water taxi. This is a dog-free and licensed event, so please leave your dogs and liquor at home. And remember, there’s no bank machine on the island.

Artists and galleries take note, the deadline to join the 2014 Sunshine Coast Art Crawl is Aug. 9. The Art Crawl will run over the weekend of Oct. 17 to 19 and all venues will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. all three days.

See www.sunshinecoastartcrawl.com for more information. Returning participants can also email artcrawl@eastlink.ca.

If you’d like me to mention your event, please email the details to laurahou@telus.net or phone, 604-886-0415. This column is published every other week throughout the year.
