The community centre on Gambier Island will celebrate its 20-year anniversary with an open house wine and cheese party on May 24 from 2 to 4 p.m.

After the first community centre burned down on Easter Sunday in 1987, a new hall was built on land donated by Helen Negroponte with funds donated from the Anavets, grants from Go-BC, money from the seniors group for kitchen equipment and many hours of volunteer labour. The new hall opened on May 22, 1994.

Looking ahead, Deer Crossing the Art Farm will sponsor a summer arts workshop for ages 8 to 14. Cost is $150 for the week of July 7 to 12.
