This Friday is Quiz Night at the Legion from 7 to 10 p.m., a fundraiser for Pender Harbour Fire Department’s Fireworks Night. There are a few tickets left for the very popular Ladies Night on Oct. 15 available at the Legion and Harbour Insurance.

This Saturday, Oct. 1, is the Fall Faire, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pender Harbour Community Hall. Enjoy entertainment, neighbourly competition, and fun for the whole family. Activities include a harvest exhibition, artisan show and sale, a community potluck dinner, free kids activities and crafts, hay rides, live music and more!

Pender Harbour Com-munity School has great programs activities and workshops this fall! It’s not too late to join the Dog Obedience and Agility Training on Wednesdays on the Elementary School field. Call the Community School at 604-883-2826 to register. Come out and try your hand at pickleball. Drop in runs through the fall and winter, open to all, every Wednesday night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Secondary School. Drop in sports for youth at the Secondary School include badminton on Mondays 7 to 9 p.m., floor hockey for boys in grades 10 to 12 on Tuesdays 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., and soccer on Thursdays 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Did you know Pender Harbour Community School offers a free poster route service for community events. We’ll put up your poster on community bulletin boards from Egmont to Madeira Park. Please design them to be no larger than 8.5 by 5.5 inches. If you get eight posters to us by Wednesday, we’ll put them up by Friday. 

The Community School is also offering a workshop where you will learn how to enhance presentations for your club or business. Hook up your devices, use Bluetooth for remote control, add sound and learn how to transfer files on the go. It’s on Wednesday, Oct. 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Harbour Learning Centre. Call the Community School at 604-883-2826 to register.

The Pender Harbour Reading Centre is open for business five days per week, Tuesday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Once again we are asking for monetary donations to our Buck for Books campaign during October and November. Donations allow the Reading Centre to purchase more books. New members are welcome and can join for $5.

Seniors Initiative has an action-packed week ahead. The Walking Group will meet in front of the Hall Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 10:30 a.m. and head out at an easy pace. Wednesday, roll on down to drop-in carpet bowling from 1 to 3 p.m. Make a scarecrow to decorate the town at Harbourside Friendships, Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Yoga Fridays are back starting Oct. 7. Yoga using floor mats is 9 to 10 a.m.; chair yoga is 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. All activities are at the Pender Harbour Community Hall.

Heartfelt thanks from the local Food Bank to everyone who has supported them through the year. Your donations of local produce, canned goods and monetary gifts have helped tremendously. IGA, Oak Tree Market, Marina Pharmacy and Roosens are always very generous.
