This Friday, Dec. 1, the Tree Lighting Ceremony in Madeira Town Centre gets underway at 5 p.m. Santa will be there, and the community carollers. Euspiria Cafe will have hot chocolate and cookie decorating at 4:30 p.m. Please bring a donation for the Food Bank. 

The Bargain Barn Thrift Store will have extended Friday evenings from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 1 1, 8 and 15. Come shop for unique Christmas gifts. Drop by for special surprise events. Dad and Kids Night is Dec. 8. The steady flow of generous donations offers lots of new choices right up to last minute shopping. Or pick up the best stocking stuffer, a Bargain Barn gift certificate. 

The Pender Harbour Community Club’s Annual Christmas Craft and Bake Sale is this Saturday, Dec. 2, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hall. Two beautiful handcrafted quilts will be up for auction and yours to win at this event. 

The Vintage Christmas Market at Sarah Wray Hall is also this Saturday Dec. 2, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy music and treats while you shop for traditional treasures. Proceeds from refreshments support the Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society. 

The artists of Harbour Gallery invite you to their cozy and festive gallery for the their annual Christmas Sale. All paintings in the gallery have been reduced in price for the month of December. Come enjoy the artwork, the ambience and the satisfaction of supporting local artists. The gallery will be open Saturdays, Dec. 2, 9, 16 and 23, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Pet Pics with Santa is this Sunday, Dec. 3 at Sunnycrest Mall 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Professional photographer Darren Bernaerdt will capture a special holiday moment for you and your pet. There will be treats and coffee, a bake sale for you and your furkid and the No Flea FLEE Market with gently used items at bargain (donation) prices. 

The theme for the Aquatic and Fitness Centre Advent Calendar Activity Dec. 1 to 17 is Getting to Know Your Community. Open the door and participate in the daily activity. For each activity completed, enter your name to win a fabulous prize. See www.PenderHarbour

John Henry’s Coast Christmas Market will extend over two weekends, Dec. 1 to 3 and 8 to 10. 

The Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary is offering In Lieu of Christ-mas Cards again this year. Instead of sending cards on the Coast, your name will be added to a card wishing everyone a Merry Christmas published in Coast Reporter in December. Send your name and donation to P.O. Harbourside Friendship Thursday, Dec. 7 at 10:30 a.m. will be a musical treat with Christmas music performed by 3 Harpist. Seniors Initiative has a great gift offering. Purchase gift coupons for their weekly activities $3 each or a book of eight for $20. Don’t forget to book your Golden Ticket for the Polar Express, just $5 for Dec. 9 or 12. The Pender Harbour Choir invites you to enjoy Christmas Memories, a winter concert for the whole family. The community choir, now in its 45th year, will perform both familiar and new music to get you in the spirit of the season. Performances are Friday Dec. 8, 7 p.m. (reception at 6:30 p.m.) at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Gardens and Sunday, Dec. 10, 2 p.m. (reception 1:30 p.m.) at the School of Music. Tickets at the EarthFair Store, Sechelt Visitor Centre and from choir members. Sunday’s performance will be followed by a Christmas community gathering at the PH Community Hall.
