PENDER HARBOUR & EGMONT

The first ladies steak night and scramble of the season is tonight, Friday, May 9 at 5 p.m. at the Pender Harbour Golf Club. Call 604-883-9541 to sign up.

The School of Music coffeehouse, set for tonight, May 9 welcomes soprano Pamela Wood to the stage featuring classic and folk music with piano accompaniment, Robin Atchison guitar and vocals and Edmund Arceo tenor, performing a jazz set with piano accompaniment. Doors open at 7, music starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission is a suggested $10 donation at the door. Coffee and goodies will be available.

This Saturday is St. Mary’s Hospital/Health Care Auxiliary Day. The members want to thank everyone for their outstanding support and will be marching through many Sunshine Coast communities. Be sure to wave to and applaud those amazing volunteers dressed in blue and white.

Also this Saturday, May 10, you have one more chance to purchase Wilma Thompson’s heirloom tomato plants at John Henry’s from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All proceeds go to the Pipe Band.

The Pender Harbour garden club has been invited for a garden tour of Caron Gardens by Ron Knight on May 12 when the rhododendrons are in full bloom. Meet at 11 a.m. for the tour followed by a plant sale and lunch break at noon (bring your lunch). At 12:45 p.m. Knight will present “secrets of rhododendron propagation.”

The Women’s Connection welcomes guest speaker Nadine Wong from Halfmoon Bay, a mixed media artist, to their get together on Tuesday, May 13 at 10 a.m. at the School of Music.

The Pender Harbour Music Society’s annual general meeting is Wednesday, May 14 at 5 p.m. at the School of Music in Madeira Park. Everyone is welcome.

Harbourside Friendships will enjoy their annual visit to Kleindale Nursery on Thursday, May 15. Pick up your favourite plants and flowers. Lunch will follow at the Community Hall. Please call Cathy for more information at 604-883-9760.

Upcoming Pender Harbour Community School events include: the class four drivers licence study group on three Wednesdays May 14, 21 and 28. This is a free course. Drop by the Community School to pick up your manual.

The ladies outdoor shoot is Sunday, May 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Sechelt Rod and Gun Club, and the Red Cross babysitters course is Sunday, June 1 at the pool from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Egmont fire Chief Peter Sly is retiring. A retirement party will be held sometime early this summer at the Egmont Heritage Centre. Please contact incoming chief Kal Helyar at 604-740-1400 for more details and this column in the coming weeks.

Get your tickets now for a great evening of entertainment when the very versatile comedy and musical duo Kenny Shaw and Brian Temple perform at the Pender Harbour Legion on May 17. Tickets are just $25 and include dinner.
