Last Sunday was a great success for the Sunshine Coast Paws for a Cause BCSPCA Walk to prevent animal cruelty. Huge heartfelt thanks to Cindy, Krista and the wonderful volunteers of all ages and of course to all who donated!

Pender Harbour Golf Club’s last Ladies Steak Night and Scramble of the season will be this Friday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Phone 604-883-9541 for more information.

The fall season at the School of Music Coffee House starts off with an exciting line up this Friday, Sept. 12. In the house are singer songwriter Baili Clarke, PH young talented singer Taylor Howie, pianist and songwriter Ken Johnson and local favorite SASSPenders women’s vocal ensemble. Doors open at 7 p.m. Music starts at 7:30 p.m. Coffee, tea and delicious fresh baking will be available.

Spend a great evening out this Saturday at Pender Harbour Legion. Salmon dinner, entertainment by Ken Johnson, a silent and live auction are all included for $20. The outstanding items for the silent auction are on display and ready for your bids now. Pick up your tickets and place a bid during operating hours Wednesday through Saturday at the Legion.

Attend our Town Hall meeting presented by the Pender Harbour Advisory Council at the Community Hall Sunday, Sept. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. This is your chance to participate in setting the community’s future direction and hear updates on current projects. The AGM for 2014 will follow the meeting.

There is a very special musical fundraiser this Sunday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Garden Bay Pub for the great Davis “Hurricane” Hoert, lead singer for the Twisters, who suffered a massive stroke. The amazing Terry Hanck will be joined by the talented Russell Marsland for a fantastic afternoon of music for a very good cause. Funds raised will go towards Hoert’s medical treatments and to his family.

The Pender Harbour Wildlife Society will hold its first meeting of the fall session Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. with a visit to the Iris Griffith Centre. Guest speaker landscape designer Diane Brown will conduct a short tour of the garden that she is designing for the centre followed by a discussion. A brief meeting of the society will follow. For those who do not wish to drive to the centre the Wood Duck Bus will be available leaving Madeira Park at 6:20 p.m. stopping at the Petro Can at 6:30 p.m. then going on to the centre and returning the same route following the meeting. There is no charge for the bus or meeting, and refreshments will be served.

Please note the change for cribbage. The start up date has been changed to Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 3 p.m. at the Pender Legion Branch 112.

Harbourside Friend-ships Throwback Thurs-day, Sept. 18, will feature a movie from the past. Join the group for coffee at 10:30 a.m. at the PH Community Hall. Hot lunch for $10 will be served at noon. Call Cathy for more details at 604-883-9760.
