Halfmoon Happenings

Halfmoon Bay

Apples, apples, apples please – for both the Healthcare Auxiliary and Applefest.

The Halfmoon Bay Branch of the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Healthcare Auxiliary is asking if anyone has a surplus of cooking apples that can be used in our Fabulous Apple Pies to get in touch with Martha Ware at 604-885-1043.

A new crop of apples for Applefest that you don’t need, can be dropped off at Dolphin Physio back door, 102-5711 Mermaid St., Sechelt. Call 604-885-2969, if you need help with picking, or other questions.

Pickleball season has started and happens at Halfmoon Bay Elementary School every Wednesday at 7 p.m. All levels of play welcome. All equipment is supplied. Cost is $3. First-time players are free.

Halfmoon Bay Fire Department hosts their Run Until It Burns 10k event on Oct. 1. This fundraiser event will help pay for life-saving equipment for our local volunteer fire department, support healthy living and help the Chatelech and Elphinstone running teams. Whether you are an experienced runner or just starting to get in shape, it is a great event for the whole family. The course runs from Fire Hall #2 to Fire Hall #1. Basically, you’ll do a 3.5km loop around the Welcome Woods neighbourhood before heading north on Redrooffs all the way to the finish.

Russell deCarle, best known as bassist and vocalist for the iconic Canadian band Prairie Oyster, is coming to Halfmoon Bay to perform on Oct. 27. DeCarle is also bringing guitarist Steve Briggs of Powell River along and will have local musicians Joe Stanton and Simon Paradis open for him. Tickets for the concert are $25 at HMB General Store, Welcome Woods Market and Strait Music.

To have your say at the Bay, contact me before 5 p.m. Monday at teknight@telus.net or 604-885-5034.
