Halfmoon Happenings

Halfmoon Bay

The Self Realization Meditation Healing Centre hosts its annual open house this Saturday, Sept. 27 from 2 to 5 p.m. The focus of the day is to welcome people to come and have a look around, enjoy the gardens and the peaceful environment of the Centre. There will be delicious home baking and teas by donation to enjoy.

See more at www.selfrealizationcentrecanada.com.

This Sunday our Halfmoon Bay volunteer fire department and Sunshine Coast Athletics co-hosts the third annual HMB Fire Department 10k run.

On-line registration is open until 6 p.m. Friday, with in-person sign-up available Saturday and Sunday. See www.sunshinecoastathletics.org/hmb10k/ for more details.

Pickleball is back in our community. It is the fastest growing sport in North America and is a simple paddle game, played with a perforated slow moving plastic ball on a badminton sized court, using a tennis type of net.

The Welcome Beach Community Association is sponsoring another season starting with an open house on Oct. 1 at the Halfmoon Bay Elementary School gym.

Plan to arrive by 7 p.m. for registration and an introduction to the game. All skill levels are welcome. Dress appropriately (runners and work out gear). All equipment is provided. Cost is $3 per session. All sessions will be on Wednesdays through to Christmas. Email [email protected] for more information.

Apologies from our Sunshine Coast Regional District director Garry Nohr who is away this week, so he will not be available at the Welcome Woods Market or the Halfmoon Bay Café.

Mark Oct. 18 and 19 on your calendar for Apple Festival weekend.

Apples are ripening now, so if you have any to share for the big copper kettle, they will be put to good use. Also on the want list is cured maple firewood that goes under the big kettle. Contact Katie at 604-885-2969 if you have apples or firewood. Apple Fest weekend also has the Boogie, Brats and Beer dance at Coopers Green on Saturday Oct. 18. Tickets will be on sale soon at the HMB General Store and Welcome Woods Market for just $15.

To have your say at the bay, contact me before 5 p.m. Monday at [email protected] or call 604-885-5034.
