Gumboot Connection

Roberts Creek

Hi all! Creek Daze is this Saturday, Aug. 12. Join in the fun. The parade begins at 11 a.m. at the Hall parading down the Roberts Creek Road. Catch up on your reading at the annual Library Book Sale. Stop by the General Store for an ice cream and then follow the fun to the mandala where there is music, fantastic food, displays and lots of fun. Bring your gumboots and a blanket and plan to spend the afternoon joining in the celebration.

Also this Saturday, Aug. 12, coinciding with Creek Daze, the Legion is holding a 70th anniversary party. From noon to 6 p.m., festivities include a cake-cutting ceremony at 1 p.m., activities for the kids, a BBQ by donation, with local musicians providing entertainment. Keeping their sights on another 70 years, executives say that their next step is improving aging infrastructure while involving younger members so it can long be at the heart of Creekers’ own celebrations. Drop by and help the Legion reach this goal. For more information, see www.robertscreeklegion.ca

Slow Sundays for Creek Daze, Aug. 13 (behind the library), by donation. Ukulele music from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. and Dale Stavroff 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. Bring chairs and sun hats, and park at the little Legion parking lot off Largo Road.

The Dawn performs in concert at Roberts Creek Hall, 7:30 p.m. on Sunday Aug. 20. “The Dawn is one of the most influential and longest-running Filipino rock bands in the Philippines.” This is their 30th anniversary and they have added the Sunshine Coast to their tour. Call Mercy at 604-741-7880 for tickets. Partial proceeds will go to the Sunshine Coast Filipino-Canadian Association.

There’s quite a line-up for next week. Step out and enjoy the activities in the Creek. And please save some time to submit your news or organization’s next event. Email [email protected].
