Tickets are going fast for the Canucks alumni game slated for next Saturday night, Jan. 19, in Gibsons.
To help celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Sunshine Coast Minor Hockey Association (SCMHA), a special charity hockey challenge has been set for Jan. 19 featuring the Vancouver Canucks Alumni squad.
The challenge game is set for a 6:05 p.m. face off at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre, featuring the Canucks alumni versus a team of SCMHA coaches past and present. Tickets are $15 for adults and teens and $10 for seniors and children, available for purchase at the community centre and the Aquatic Centre in Sechelt.
The alumni roster, which is subject to change, will include: Larry Melnyk, Dave Babych, Jeff Bandura, Rick Amann, Garry Nylund, Ed Hatoum, Dave Bruce, Dusty Imoo, Jackson Davies, Greg Neeld, Dave Tomlinson, Garry Monahan and Terry Bingley.
There will be an autograph session at the community centre at 4 p.m. with the first 125 people to get signed photos. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the warm-up at 5:40, introductions at 5:55, puck drop at 6:05 with the game to conclude at 7:30 p.m.
The Sunshine Coast skate club is handling the concession and will be doing an intermission skating demo along with a tyke division mini-game.
All proceeds from the event will go towards the One Goal program and player and coaching development within the association. An added fundraiser will be a silent auction that will run throughout the day at the community centre.
The Vancouver Canucks Alumni is made up of former hockey players, coaches and administrators and has more than 100 members and associates in the greater Vancouver area.
We're always glad to help out in any community whether it is Burnaby, up in the Interior or in Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast, said alumni team spokesperson Rod Brathwaite. We're looking forward to coming up to the Sunshine Coast and helping out the minor hockey association. We try to have some fun and put on a good show. We play a three-period game and people will see the traditional hockey with all the goals and saves, and we always try to interject a few antics to keep the crowd entertained.
